A young woman who had been reported missing was tragically found dead in a garbage chute at a Manhattan condo building, law enforcement sources have confirmed. The deceased has been identified as Jaclyn ‘Jackie’ Elmquist, a 24-year-old woman. The building employee discovered her body at 540 West 28th Street in Chelsea last week. Elmquist had disappeared after attending a work party.

Elmquist’s cousin took to social media platform X to share a missing person poster after she vanished. In the post, she pleaded for help, saying, “my cousin Jackie Elmquist has been missing since last night after she left a work party in Manhattan- she didn’t come home or show up for work this morning please spread the word so people in the area can see it since all of her family lives here in Minnesota.”

Upon finding Elmquist’s body, officers and emergency medical services rushed to the luxury residential complex. Tragically, she was pronounced dead at the scene. Shocking surveillance footage depicted her stumbling down West 28th Street, attempting to open doors, before her lifeless body was discovered. The reason behind her entry into the building remains unclear. Police are now investigating a potential connection between Elmquist and another missing person’s case, where a woman was last seen at a nearby restaurant, getting into a taxi.

Elmquist’s devastated father, James Elmquist, from Minnesota, spoke to the New York Post, stating, “We’re going through Jackie’s things now… It’s tragic and, uh, it’s just a bad situation I can’t really talk.”

According to authorities, they believe Elmquist’s death was accidental and not the result of foul play. A spokesperson from the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information confirmed, “A preliminary investigation determined the deceased’s injuries are indicative of having fallen down the garbage chute.” However, an autopsy by the city Medical Examiner’s office is still pending to determine the precise cause and manner of Elmquist’s death.

A police source, as reported by the New York Post, mentioned the possibility of Elmquist being intoxicated, though it has not yet been confirmed. The investigation into this tragic incident continues.
