4-Year-Old Victim Identified in Tragic Eau Claire County Crash: Michael Rusch and Child Killed in High-Speed Single-Vehicle Accident

EAU CLAIRE COUNTY, Wis. (WEAU) – A tragic car accident in Eau Claire County has claimed the lives of two individuals, including a 4-year-old child. The incident occurred on December 1, 2023, at approximately 11:24 a.m. near E14510 County Road D, Fall Creek.

The Eau Claire County Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to the scene of the single-vehicle crash. Upon arrival, they discovered two lifeless bodies inside the vehicle. The driver has been identified as 33-year-old Michael Rusch from Augusta, while the passenger was the young child.

Authorities have since released an updated statement, revealing that Rusch was driving at a high speed on County Road D near S 140th Avenue. Shockingly, the 4-year-old was seated in a child safety seat in the front passenger seat. Tragically, Rusch lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve, causing it to veer off the road and collide with trees. The car then rolled over, resulting in fatal injuries for both Rusch and the young child.

Disturbingly, a witness informed the Sheriff’s Office that they had been overtaken by the speeding vehicle just moments before the accident occurred. The witness estimated the car’s speed to be around 100 miles-per-hour while traveling on Highway 12.

Authorities have launched a comprehensive investigation into the crash to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding this devastating incident.
