U.S. Airman identified in Osprey crash in Japan: Jacob “Jake” M. Galliher

The remains of a U.S. airman who died in a military aircraft crash in Japan have been identified, while the search continues for the seven others on board. The airman has been identified as U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Jacob “Jake” M. Galliher, a 24-year-old direct support operator stationed at Kadena Air Base in Japan. The crash occurred when an Osprey aircraft crashed near the island of Yakushima during a routine training mission. Japanese coast guard officials reported that the aircraft rolled over mid-flight, with a fire and explosion occurring before it headed towards the water. The cause of the crash is still unknown.

The U.S. military, in coordination with Japanese allies, is conducting a search and rescue operation to locate the missing crew members. The operation includes air, surface, and subsurface area searches of the water and coastline. The focus is on enabling the ongoing search and rescue efforts while providing support to the affected families.
