Three children, including a 14-year-old student, tragically lost their lives in two separate drowning incidents in the Mayurbhanj and Sundargarh districts on Saturday. The first incident occurred in the Mayurbhanj district, where two siblings drowned while bathing in the village pond of Jyotipur under Baripada Sadar police station. The victims were identified as Mala Majhi, aged 6, and her 2-year-old brother Karthik Majhi.
The unfortunate incident took place around 10:30 am when the siblings went to the pond and accidentally slipped into a deep area. Concerned when their children didn’t return, the parents launched a desperate search. Fire personnel were informed and immediately rushed to the spot, where they tragically recovered the lifeless bodies of the young victims.

In a separate incident in Rourkela, a 14-year-old boy named Priyanshu Bhol drowned while his friend Priyaranjan Padhi went missing in the Koel River near Pradhanpali within the Chhend police limits during the afternoon. According to sources, after school hours, four students from an English medium school went to the riverside. Unfortunately, two of them drowned while bathing. The Chhend police managed to recover one body, but the search for the missing boy was still ongoing.
