A man has been identified as the suspect in a shooting incident in Victorville, which resulted in the suspect’s death and a sheriff’s sergeant being injured. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department revealed that Jorge Cardenas, a 27-year-old resident of Ontario, was responsible for the shootout. The incident occurred when a sergeant responded to a 9-1-1 call reporting a man with a gun at a gas station on Bear Valley Road. The caller, who was the suspect’s girlfriend, had locked herself in the bathroom of the business. Cardenas allegedly fired at the sergeant upon his arrival. Despite being shot twice in the legs, the sergeant, who has served in the department for 16 years, is expected to survive. Cardenas, however, died at the scene. An ongoing investigation is being conducted to determine the events leading up to the shootout. The Sheriff’s Department has confirmed the recovery of a handgun believed to have been used by the suspect.
