A suspect has been apprehended in connection with the murders of four men in Los Angeles County over the course of four days, according to police reports released on Saturday.
The victims included three homeless men who were sleeping in different locations throughout the city. The fourth victim, a Los Angeles County employee, was followed home by the attacker, robbed, and then shot and killed.

Jerrid Joseph Powell, a 33-year-old man, was arrested by police in connection with the robbery and murder of the county employee. It was later discovered that he was also linked to the three other killings.

On Sunday, November 26, at around 3 a.m., a 37-year-old Hispanic man named Jose Bolanos was shot and killed while sleeping on a couch in a rear alley near 110th Street. Police Chief Michel Moore described the killing as “brutal and ruthless.”
The second killing occurred on Monday, November 27, at approximately 4:55 a.m. Mark Diggs, a 62-year-old man who was pushing a shopping cart, was shot near a rear wall. Moore described the incident as “chilling” and stated that the attacker showed no hesitation or interaction before shooting Diggs.

On Tuesday, November 28, Nicholas Simbolon, a 42-year-old man, was found dead in his garage in the city of San Dimas. It appeared that Powell had followed Simbolon home from an electric vehicle charging station, robbed him, and then shot him before fleeing.
Less than 24 hours later, on Wednesday, November 29, a 52-year-old man sleeping on the sidewalk was shot and killed near an intersection.
Police arrested Powell early on Thursday, December 1, in Beverly Hills on charges of murder and robbery. The arrest was made after the Beverly Hills police identified his car and matched the license plate to the vehicle used in the Tuesday killing. Ballistic evidence found in Powell’s car also matched the weapon used in the killings of the three homeless men.
At a news conference on Friday, December 2, police announced their search for a gunman involved in the shootings. Mayor Karen Bass stated that emergency shelters would be opened for homeless individuals.
During a news conference on Saturday, December 3, Chief Moore explained how investigators connected the dots between the shootings. The shell casings, vehicle, and weapon found in Powell’s possession linked him to all four homicides.
The arrest and subsequent connection of Powell to these heinous crimes have provided some relief to the Los Angeles community. Law enforcement officials are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and ensure justice is served.
