Police constable Ahsanul Haque killed in train collision at rail crossing in Jamalpur’s Sadar upazila

A police constable was tragically killed and another was injured in a collision between a local train and a police van at a rail crossing in Jamalpur’s Sadar upazila early on Sunday. The deceased constable was identified as Ahsanul Haque, 32, a resident of Rajnagar village in Kamlakanda upazila in Netrokona and a constable of Sadar police station. The injured constable, Ariful Islam, is currently in critical condition and has been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College and Hospital.

The incident occurred at around 4:15 am when a Dewanganj-bound train collided with the patrol police van at Shekhervita rail crossing. Ahsanul was killed instantly, while Ariful sustained injuries. According to local sources, the gate of the crossing was not lowered when the Dewanganj-bound local train from Dhaka was crossing the railway crossing in Shekervita area.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mahabbat Kabir of the Sadar police station confirmed the details of the incident. He expressed his sorrow over the loss of Ahsanul and stated that the injured constable is receiving medical treatment in critical condition.

The collision has raised concerns about the safety measures at rail crossings in the area. It is essential for the gate to be properly lowered and for adequate warning signals to be in place to avoid such accidents. Authorities need to investigate why the gate was not lowered at the time of the collision and take necessary steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The tragic incident has left the police force mourning the loss of one of their own and praying for the recovery of the injured constable. The community is also in shock and calls for improved safety measures at rail crossings to prevent further accidents and loss of life.
