By | December 3, 2023

A 21-year-old man from Newbury Park is set to face a murder charge after allegedly attacking his 63-year-old mother with a hammer. The incident resulted in the woman’s death on Friday. Alison Marshall, the victim, passed away at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Capt. Dean Worthy, confirmed her death on Sunday.

Earlier, prosecutors had charged the woman’s son, Scott Goldberg, with attempted murder following the incident that occurred on November 19 in their family home on Mayfield Court. Goldberg was also accused of assaulting his 64-year-old father with the same hammer, although his father survived the attack. The District Attorney’s Office is now preparing to upgrade the charge against Goldberg to murder, with the shift expected to occur on Monday, according to Erin Meister, a supervising senior deputy DA.

Initially held at the county jail on bail of approximately $500,000, Goldberg’s bail was subsequently denied following a request from the prosecution. This means he will remain in custody until his trial. Goldberg has not yet entered a plea to the original charges, and it remains uncertain whether the upgraded charge will affect his scheduled arraignment on December 20.

As of now, Goldberg is still being held at the county’s main jail in Ventura. This story may be updated with further information as it becomes available.
