New York police officers shot and killed a man on Sunday after he allegedly stabbed four family members, set a building on fire, and stabbed two police officers. The incident took place in the Far Rockaway section of Queens.

Authorities were alerted to the situation when a woman called 911 to report that her cousin was attacking her family. Two officers who were patrolling the area responded to the call and encountered a man leaving the scene with luggage. They stopped him, but he quickly pulled out a knife and began stabbing the officers.

One officer was struck in the neck and the other in the face. In response, one of the officers drew his gun and shot the suspect, identified as Courtney Gordon, 38. Gordon, who was visiting family from the Bronx, was taken to a local hospital but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

During the incident, an 11-year-old girl with stab wounds was found outside the home. Tragically, she succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. The officers were unable to enter the house immediately as the living room and foyer were engulfed in flames.

The fire department arrived to extinguish the blaze and discovered three more victims inside the house—a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman, and a man in his 30s—who had all been fatally stabbed. A 61-year-old woman was also found with multiple stab wounds and remains in critical condition at Mount Sinai Hospital.

According to authorities, Gordon is believed to have set a couch on fire before leaving the scene. Investigators are now trying to determine if the same knife was used to harm all the victims.
