Four people, including two children, were killed in a mass stabbing at an apartment in New York City on Sunday morning. The victims, an 11-year-old girl, a 12-year-old boy, a 44-year-old woman, and a man in his 30s, are believed to be members of the same family. The incident took place in the Far Rockaway neighborhood of Queens.
A 61-year-old woman was critically injured, and two police officers were also stabbed when they responded to an emergency call from the home. The officers rushed to the scene after a woman reported that her cousin was killing members of her family with a steak knife.

Upon arrival, the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Courtney Gordon, was leaving the property with luggage. He attacked one officer, slashing him in the neck and chest, and another officer in the head. Both officers survived and were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police then shot and killed Gordon.
The apartment was inaccessible at first because the suspect had set a couch on fire. Once inside, authorities discovered three of the victims. The body of the young girl was found outside the property.
“This scene was chaos, multiple victims, a home on fire, and a madman on a rampage, on a mission,” said Patrick Henry, the president of the New York City Police Benevolent Association.
Gordon, a Bronx resident, had a previous arrest record for domestic violence. The motive behind the attack remains unclear.

New York City Police Department Chief Jeffrey Maddrey commended the officers for their bravery, stating, “They could have easily let this person walk past them with his luggage. Instead, they stopped, asked a couple of questions, tried to get some intel before they walked right up in there. Unfortunately, they were met with the perpetrator in this incident. He went right at them.”
The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the exact circumstances and motive behind the attack.
