Estranged Husband Charged with Murder of Shakeira Yvonne Rucker

The husband of a woman who was found dead in a storage unit in Orange County, Florida, has been charged with her murder, according to authorities. Shakeira Yvonne Rucker, a 37-year-old mother of four, was reported missing by her family on November 11. The Winter Springs Police Department was informed that Rucker had last been seen on that day. At the time, police stated that she had left her home with her estranged husband, Cory Hill, for an unknown destination.

Last month, law enforcement officials in Florida announced that Rucker’s disappearance was being investigated as a homicide after her body was discovered in a storage unit registered to Hill. On Friday, the Office of the State Attorney for the Ninth Judicial Circuit confirmed that formal charges had been filed against Hill for the murder of Shakeira Rucker. Hill had already been arrested in November on charges of attempted second-degree murder and other offenses against his ex-girlfriend and her family.

Hill, 51, had been booked into the Orange County Jail on November 13 for an unrelated shooting incident. He was accused of shooting at his former girlfriend and her family, resulting in four counts of attempted murder. Prosecutors announced on Friday that Hill now faces an additional charge of second-degree murder for Rucker’s death. Her body was found in a self-storage facility in Apopka after a complaint about a foul smell coming from one of the units registered to Hill. Deputies who opened the unit discovered Rucker’s body, which showed signs of gunshot wounds.

Rucker’s family has set up a GoFundMe page to support her four children, aged 7 to 18. Prosecutors have stated that they will seek a first-degree murder indictment in Rucker’s homicide. However, due to procedural rules, they are currently limited to filing a second-degree murder charge before presenting the case to the Orange County Grand Jury.
