A suspect has been arrested by the Los Angeles police in connection with four recent deaths. Jerrid Joseph Powell was taken into custody for the killings of three homeless men and a separate killing during a home robbery in San Dimas, California. The suspect was identified after a firearm was found in the vehicle he was driving at the time of his arrest. Powell was apprehended by the Beverly Hills Police Department for the shooting death of a 42-year-old man. The LAPD praised the use of technology and collaboration between law enforcement agencies in apprehending the suspected murderer.
The fatal shootings of the three men occurred at the end of November while the victims were either sleeping or preparing to sleep. Jose Bolanos, 37, was found dead in an alley on November 26, Mark Diggs, 62, was shot and killed while pushing a shopping cart on November 27, and the third victim, a 52-year-old man, was shot and killed on November 29. The LAPD initially released a statement asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect and determining if the shootings were related to each other or the San Dimas killing.

In a press conference, Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore expressed gratitude that the suspect is no longer a threat to the community. He also thanked the city partners for their cooperation and assistance in ensuring the safety of the vulnerable population affected by these crimes. The police issued a community bulletin advising people to seek shelter in transitional homes or with friends and family, avoid isolated areas especially at night, and stay in well-lit and populated areas.
Powell is scheduled to appear in court on Monday and is currently being held on $2 million bail. The LAPD is committed to bringing justice to the murder victims and continues to investigate the case. The arrest of the suspect brings relief to the community and serves as a reminder of the importance of collaboration and technology in solving crimes and ensuring public safety.
