Mumbai police have registered two accidental death reports following a fire in the Gomati building in Girgaon. The fire, which occurred on the third floor of the building on Rangekar Road, is believed to have been caused by a short circuit. The blaze started around 9:30am and was extinguished six hours later at 3:30pm on Sunday. Two charred bodies were found at the scene of the fire.
According to officials, the fire quickly spread due to the building’s wooden staircase and structure. The flat where the bodies were found had recently undergone renovations. The deceased have been identified as Hiren Shah, aged 60, and Nalini Shah, aged 80.

Rescue efforts managed to save nine individuals from the building. To tackle the fire, eight fire engines and five water lines were utilized, including two from each staircase and the south side of an adjacent building. The fire was finally brought under control after extensive efforts by the fire department.
Two accidental death reports have been filed, and an investigation into the incident is currently underway. Preliminary findings suggest that a short circuit may have caused the fire. The police will continue to gather evidence and interview witnesses to determine the exact cause and any possible negligence involved.
