Two Persons, Namita Patel and Lalit Dehury, Killed in Mud Wall Collapse

Two people, including a woman, have tragically died after a mud wall collapsed on them in Bijadihi, Sambalpur. The victims have been identified as Namita Patel, 45, and Lalit Dehury, 60.

According to the police, Namita had hired Lalit, a laborer, to demolish a wall in her house. As Lalit was dismantling the wall, Namita was standing nearby to inspect the work. Unexpectedly, the wall collapsed, burying them under the debris.

Upon hearing the loud crash, Namita’s family rushed to the scene and managed to free the trapped duo. They were immediately taken to Kuchinda sub-divisional hospital in critical condition. Sadly, both Namita and Lalit succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

Police promptly arrived at the hospital and seized the bodies for postmortem examinations. Sources indicate that the wall, being old and weak, collapsed when Lalit attempted to demolish it.

Kuchinda SDPO Amitav Panda informed that two cases of unnatural death have been registered in connection with the incident. After the autopsy, the bodies were handed over to the grieving families. The investigation is still ongoing to determine any further details.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of safety precautions during construction and demolition work. Authorities and individuals alike must ensure the structural stability of buildings before carrying out any such activities.
