Road Rage Incident in Frankford Ends in Tragedy: Man Charged with Murder

An apparent road rage incident in Frankford last month resulted in a confrontation that led to the death of one man and serious injury to another. Jeremiah Handy, 38, has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and weapons offenses in connection with the fatal crash that occurred on November 24. The incident unfolded when Handy allegedly hit 22-year-old Gabriel Dorman and his 20-year-old friend with his SUV while they were riding a four-wheeler.

The impact caused the two young men to be thrown from the ATV, and Dorman was fatally run over by another car. The 20-year-old friend underwent emergency surgery and is currently recovering from his injuries. Handy was arrested on Friday and is now being held in prison.

Court documents obtained by Delaware Online/The News Journal reveal that the tragedy was preceded by a series of events that occurred over several weeks. Two weeks prior to the crash, Dorman and his girlfriend were involved in a road rage incident with Handy. The girlfriend reported following Handy’s car back to his home on Frankford School Road. In the following weeks, the couple allegedly continued to drive by Handy’s residence, engaging in provocative activities such as lighting firecrackers and performing “burn-outs” in front of the home.

On the morning of November 24, troopers responded to a report of shots fired at Handy’s home. However, surveillance video later revealed that Dorman and his friend had thrown a rock at the residence, and no shots were fired. When police arrived, they discovered the two young men lying on the ground. Dorman was pronounced dead at the scene, while his friend was rushed to the hospital.

Handy and the woman residing in the home provided a similar account of the incident to detectives. They claimed that the four-wheeler had struck Handy’s Mercedes before fleeing the scene. However, video evidence contradicted their statements, showing Handy accelerating and intentionally colliding with the ATV. Police also found a gun and ammunition in Handy’s house, although it remains unclear who fired the live bullet found at the scene.

Following an autopsy, the Delaware medical examiner ruled Dorman’s death as a homicide, citing head injuries consistent with impact with the ground. Handy is currently being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on an $850,000 cash bond.
