Rev Kingsley Eze Kidnapped by Gunmen in Imo State, Nigeria

Gunmen targeted St Michael’s Catholic Parish in Umuekebi, Osuoweerre community in Imo State, kidnapping the Catholic priest, Rev Kingsley Eze. The incident took place at Orie Ama junction, where the priest and his friend, Uchenna Newman, were driving in a Volvo car. Not only did the criminals abduct the priest and his companion, but they also robbed several shop owners before fleeing the scene.

Eyewitnesses reported that the gunmen arrived on two motorcycles and immediately began firing indiscriminately. Unfortunately, a stray bullet struck a passer-by, who was quickly rushed to the hospital for medical attention. The frequency of robbery and kidnapping incidents in the area has raised concerns among locals. Individuals like Mr Ezeji from Mbeke community and Mr Buchi, a well-known butcher at Umuelemia junction, have previously fallen victim to gunmen and were forced to pay hefty ransoms for their release.

Attempts to reach the police command for comments on the incident were unsuccessful. The police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, stated that he was in a meeting and would provide a response at a later time.

The kidnapping of the Catholic priest has sparked fears and concerns within the community. The safety of religious leaders and citizens in the area is now a pressing issue. Local residents are demanding increased security measures to curb the rising wave of criminal activities.
