The incident began earlier in the day as a confrontation between two men, one of whom was armed, in the 3200 block of Nellis Boulevard. The armed man fled the scene and was later spotted from the air near the intersection of Nellis and Cheyenne Avenue. He then entered an unoccupied tow truck and drove to the 5700 block of Baffy Circle, where he ran into a residence.

Police established a perimeter around the residence and called in crisis negotiators and SWAT officers. The man attempted to escape on a motorcycle but was stopped with non-lethal force, causing him to crash. As he fled on foot, he drew a firearm, leading Officer Oswald to shoot him.

Officer Oswald will be placed on paid administrative leave while the incident is reviewed. This marks the eighth officer-involved shooting for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department this year. It is also the second police shooting within the past week, following an incident where a man was fatally shot after approaching officers with a knife.
