Man Arrested for Hit-and-Run Involving Bicyclist in Plant City, Florida

PLANT CITY, Fla. – A man has been arrested in Plant City after allegedly hitting a bicyclist and fleeing the scene of the crash early on Saturday morning, according to local police.

The incident occurred just after 2:00 a.m. when a witness called 911 to report a collision involving a blue Ford F-150 pickup truck and a bicycle. The crash happened on N. Park Rd. near the intersection of E. Sam Allen Rd.

Authorities state that after the collision, the driver, later identified as John Keith Jones, initially stopped his vehicle along with a witness. However, when the witness mentioned calling the police, Jones swiftly returned to his truck and fled the scene.

Fortunately, another witness followed Jones and managed to obtain the truck’s license plate number, which they promptly shared with the police.

Using the license plate information, investigators were able to locate Jones at an address on E. Williams Rd. Upon arrival, officers observed the truck displaying damage consistent with the crash.

Jones was subsequently arrested and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death or serious bodily injury.

Authorities are urging anyone with additional information regarding this incident to contact the Plant City Police Department Traffic Management Unit at (813) 757-9200.
