Los Angeles police have identified a 33-year-old man as the suspect in three recent killings of homeless men. Jerrid Joseph Powell, who was already arrested in another shooting investigation, was linked to the killings after a firearm found in the vehicle he was driving during his arrest was connected to the shootings. Powell was taken into custody by Los Angeles sheriff’s deputies earlier this week for investigation into the shooting death and robbery of a 42-year-old man.

The shootings took place at the end of November, with the victims being targeted while they were sleeping or preparing to go to bed. Jose Bolanos, 37, was found dead with a gunshot wound in an alley in South Los Angeles on November 26. The following day, Mark Diggs, 62, was shot and killed while pushing a shopping cart near downtown. The third shooting occurred on November 29 in the Lincoln Heights area, where the body of a 52-year-old man was discovered. The police have not yet released the identity of the third victim.

Detectives were able to identify Powell’s vehicle through surveillance footage and tracked it to Beverly Hills, where he was apprehended. A firearm was discovered inside the vehicle. Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore expressed relief that Powell is now in custody and no longer a threat to the community. Powell is due to appear in court on Monday, and he is currently being held on $2 million bail.

Further details about Powell’s motive or any potential connection between him and the victims have not been released. It is unclear at this time whether Powell has legal representation. The investigation into the three killings is ongoing, and authorities are working to notify the families of the victims.
