Initially, reports had indicated that two people had been killed, but the police later clarified that only one person had died. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a man in a hoodie fleeing the area in a dark-colored sedan.

There had been speculation about whether this incident could be connected to the recent shootings targeting the unhoused population in California. However, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Jason Johannson stated that at this point, they do not believe there is a connection. However, he did mention that if their investigation leads them in that direction, they will explore the possibility further.

In Los Angeles, the police had already launched an appeal on Friday to help identify a suspect responsible for killing three homeless people in the past week. LAPD Chief Michel Moore described the suspect as targeting lone, unsheltered individuals while they slept.

The LAPD has formed a task force to investigate the killings and is working tirelessly to apprehend the suspect. Mayor Karen Bass urged homeless individuals to seek shelter and avoid sleeping alone outside until the suspect is caught. She referred to the perpetrator as a “killer who is preying on the unhoused.”
