A woman’s body was discovered in a trash compactor at a luxury building in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City, police said on Saturday. The remains have been identified as those of Jaclyn Elmquist, a 24-year-old woman who had been reported missing. However, authorities do not suspect foul play in her death.

The body was found on Friday afternoon at +Art, located at 540 West 28th St. Police were able to connect Elmquist’s disappearance to the discovery of her body based on missing flyers that were posted in the area. Surveillance video outside the building shows Elmquist, who is from Minnesota, appearing intoxicated as she stumbled down the sidewalk before entering the building.

“It hasn’t been determined if she was intoxicated, but it’s a possibility,” said a police source. An investigation is underway to determine the cause and manner of her death, with an autopsy pending from the city Medical Examiner’s office.

Elmquist had been attending a work party in Manhattan and never returned to her home in Brooklyn, according to a post made by her cousin on social media platform X. The cousin urged people to spread the word about Elmquist’s disappearance since her family resides in Minnesota.

The incident has sparked shock and concern among residents in the area. The luxury building where the body was found is known for its upscale amenities and prime location. The police spokesperson confirmed that no criminality is suspected at this time, suggesting that the incident may have been a tragic accident.

As the investigation continues, friends and family mourn the loss of Jaclyn Elmquist and await further updates on the circumstances surrounding her untimely death.
