Homicide in Aurora Leaves One Dead and Two Injured, Victim Identified as Ross Nickolaus

LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – The Nebraska State Patrol is currently investigating a homicide that occurred on Saturday morning in Aurora, resulting in the death of one person and injuries to two others.

At around 1:20 a.m., the Aurora Police Department received a report about a stabbing at a residence on Fairview Drive. Upon arrival, officers found an adult woman with severe injuries in the driveway of a nearby house. Subsequently, they discovered a person holding a knife at the mentioned residence, who cooperated with the authorities and was subsequently taken into custody.

Further search of the residence revealed two more victims inside. All three victims were then transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, one of the victims, identified as 48-year-old Ross Nickolaus, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital. The injured woman was then transported to Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha for treatment of her serious injuries, while the third victim, a juvenile, received treatment for minor injuries and was released. All three victims had sustained stab wounds.

The suspect, identified as 29-year-old Caleb Arnett, was also taken to the hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries he had sustained prior to the arrival of the officers. Following his treatment, he was taken into custody and subsequently lodged in Hamilton County Jail.

In light of the seriousness of the incident, the Aurora Police Department has requested that the Nebraska State Patrol lead the homicide investigation. Arnett has been charged with first-degree murder and two counts of first-degree assault. The investigation is still ongoing.
