Arrest Made in Connection with Homicides of Three Homeless Men in Los Angeles; Deceased Victims Named

Officials in Los Angeles have made an arrest in connection with the recent homicides of three homeless men. The suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Jerrid Joseph Powell. The announcement came after city officials held an emergency press conference to address the murders.

The first victim was shot in the Westmont neighborhood while he slept on a couch in a rear alley. The second victim was killed in downtown Los Angeles while waiting for his phone to charge. The third killing occurred in Lincoln Heights as the victim slept on a sidewalk. The victims have been identified as Jose Bolanos, Mark Diggs, and a 52-year-old Hispanic man whose name has not been released.

Powell was taken into custody over the murder of Nicholas Simbolon, who was followed to his home in San Dimas and fatally shot. The police linked Powell’s vehicle to surveillance footage from the scene of another attack.

Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore stated that there are similarities in the way the crimes were carried out, suggesting a link. All the victims were alone in open areas when they were shot. Moore also released screengrabs from surveillance footage showing the alleged killer and his vehicle.

The city has set up temporary winter shelters for the homeless and increased patrols in areas where they tend to sleep. Mayor Karen Bass urged the public to spread the word about the investigation and encouraged the homeless population to seek shelter and stay together.
