70-year-old Woman Murdered at Her Residence in Tirupur

Coimbatore: Three individuals have been apprehended in connection with the murder of a 70-year-old woman at her residence in Rayakottai Thottam near Parapalayam in Tirupur. The suspects, identified as R Senthilkumar, A Pothiraj, and P Sathish, were all employed as tailors at a banyan company in Tirupur city.

The victim, N Maniyammal, had been living alone for the past seven years following the death of her husband. She had rented three properties in the locality. On Wednesday evening, Maniyammal’s neighbors noticed her lying unconscious through the window and alerted the police. When authorities arrived and broke open the door, they discovered that she had been killed. The body was sent for a postmortem examination at the Tirupur Government Medical College Hospital.

Maniyammal’s daughter, S Saraswathi, noticed that her mother’s three-gram gold nose ring was missing and immediately informed the police. A case was registered against unknown individuals under sections 302 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code. CCTV camera footage from the area helped identify the three accused, and Senthilkumar was taken into custody for questioning.

During the interrogation, Senthilkumar confessed that he had previously stayed at the elderly woman’s residence and believed she had a substantial amount of money and gold. Along with his friends, he planned to rob her. When Maniyammal tried to raise an alarm, they strangled her to death using a mobile phone charger’s wire. However, they were unable to find any valuables in the house and only managed to escape with her nose ring.

All three suspects have been remanded in judicial custody. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, as neighbors and residents express their condolences to the victim’s family. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the case and will ensure that justice is served.
