Valerie Tindall: Missing Indiana Teen’s Remains Found Buried on Neighbor’s Property

ARLINGTON, Ind. (AP) — The body of a 17-year-old girl who went missing in June has been identified and found buried on the property of a man now facing charges for her murder. The remains were discovered on Tuesday on the land owned by Patrick Scott, who has been charged with the girl’s slaying. Rush County Coroner Brenda McMahan confirmed that the remains belong to Valerie Tindall, but the cause and manner of her death are still pending toxicology reports and a final autopsy report.

The Rush County Sheriff’s Office expressed their condolences to Tindall’s family and friends in a statement on Thursday. Scott, aged 59, has been charged with murder, obstruction of justice, and false informing. He appeared in court where he was ordered to be held without bond. A public defender has been appointed to represent him.

Tindall had been working for Scott, who owns a lawn-mowing business. According to court documents, she informed her parents on June 7 that she was going to work. Scott claimed that he drove her back to his home in Arlington later that day. He told investigators that he strangled Tindall with his belt in his bedroom when she attempted to blackmail and seduce him.

Searches were conducted to find Tindall after her disappearance, including one on October 11 when cadaver-sniffing dogs indicated the smell of decomposition near Scott’s property. However, nothing was found during the search. On Tuesday, investigators discovered a large dirt pile and debris on Scott’s property. They proceeded to dig up a rectangular box wrapped in tarp, which contained human remains.

Tindall’s mother, Shena Sandefur, revealed that the family had trusted Scott, as he was their neighbor. Sandefur stated that her daughter and Scott had a bond and were friends. Tindall not only worked for him but also spent time with his family, including his granddaughter.

The investigation into Valerie Tindall’s murder is ongoing, and authorities await further reports before determining the exact cause and manner of her death.
