Two coal miners killed in fire at Duki coal field in Pakistan

Islamabad, Pakistan – Two coal miners were killed and three others were injured in a fire at a private mine in Pakistan’s Balochistan province. The incident occurred in the Duki coal field, according to a report by Dawn.

The fire broke out when the miners were working at a depth of 3,500 feet inside the mine. The blaze quickly spread, trapping the workers and engulfing the mine. Mines Inspector Maqsood Ahmed stated that rescue teams were immediately dispatched to the scene and began efforts to rescue the trapped miners. Tragically, two miners lost their lives in the incident, while three others were rescued with burn injuries.

The deceased miners have been identified as Abdullah and Barkhatullah, both of whom hailed from Afghanistan. The injured miners, Said Jan, Roozudin, and Matiullah, were rushed to Duki Hospital for treatment.

In a separate incident, a fire at RJ Mall in Karachi’s Rashid Minhas Road resulted in 10 casualties and left 22 others injured. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab confirmed the casualties and stated that the fire had been extinguished.

The Fire and Rescue spokesperson reported that the incident was reported at 6:30 am local time. Eight fire tenders, two snorkels, and two bowsers were deployed to the scene to extinguish the fire.

Fires in mines and commercial buildings remain a significant concern in Pakistan. The authorities must prioritize safety measures to prevent such incidents and ensure the well-being of the workers and the public.
