Three people have tragically lost their lives in a road accident near Salem on Thursday. The incident occurred when a truck collided with a pick-up van that was being used to transport goods.
The victims have been identified as M Praveenkumar, 27, from Villupuram, Sudarshan, 40, from Arakkonam, and Prakasam, 52, from Gudiyatham. The truck driver, Pechimuthu from Tirunelveli, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The accident took place as Pechimuthu was traveling from Nilavarapatti to Chennai, carrying empty cool drinks bottles on his truck. Near Kilakukadu, the truck collided head-on with the van coming from the opposite direction. The impact of the collision completely destroyed the front portion of the van, trapping all three passengers inside.
Despite the efforts of passers-by to rescue them, they were unable to free the victims from the mangled vehicle. The authorities were alerted, and a team led by Vazhapadi DSP P Harishankari arrived at the scene. Unfortunately, by the time they arrived, the three passengers had already succumbed to their injuries.
After an hour-long struggle, the bodies were eventually retrieved from the van by the fire and rescue services personnel. The police have sent the bodies for a postmortem examination.
The accident resulted in traffic congestion on the Salem-Chennai highway for nearly an hour. A crane was brought to the scene from a nearby tollgate to remove the vehicles involved in the collision.

Pechimuthu, the truck driver, suffered a leg fracture and was taken to the Vazhapadi government hospital for treatment. His condition is currently stable, according to the police.
