COLUMBUS, Ind. — Corbin Hippensteel, a 30-year-old man from Columbus, has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on November 27. The Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office officially filed the charges against him on Friday.
The incident took place on Joseph Cox Court, where police responded to reports of shots fired. They discovered Alejandro Flores, a 54-year-old man, with a gunshot wound. Unfortunately, Flores was pronounced dead shortly after.

According to court documents, a family member of Hippensteel called 911 and informed the police that Hippensteel had shot and killed someone in their home. Police were able to locate Hippensteel soon after the call, but he did not have a firearm on him at the time of his arrest.
During an interview, the family member told police that Hippensteel had been agitated throughout the day. Flores, a friend of Hippensteel’s, had visited the home that day, and the two were engaged in conversation. The family member stated that there was no arguing, but suddenly, Hippensteel threatened to shoot Flores in the head and pointed a revolver at him.
The family member heard a click, suggesting that the trigger had been pulled. They confronted Hippensteel, who fired a shot, hitting Flores. The family member fled the scene and called 911. When police conducted a search, they found Flores’ body, a .22 caliber revolver, and ammunition in the home.
Authorities also searched a campsite where they believed Hippensteel was staying and discovered additional ammunition and property belonging to him.

Hippensteel is currently being held without bond at the Bartholomew County Jail, and the case is pending in Bartholomew Circuit Court.
