A shooting attack in Jerusalem has left three people dead and six others injured, with three in critical condition, according to the police. The attackers, two Palestinian residents of East Jerusalem, were neutralized at the scene by two off-duty soldiers and an armed civilian. The incident took place at the Givat Shaul roundabout, where the 24-year-old attacker was pronounced dead, while the other victims were declared dead at Shaare Tzedek hospital. The police spokesperson confirmed that two armed terrorists arrived in a car and opened fire on civilians at a bus stop before being neutralized. A pistol and an M-16 rifle, along with ammunition, were found in the car.

The attack occurred amidst heightened tension in the West Bank and Jerusalem, which has been similar to the conflict with Gaza. A truce between Israel and Hamas has been extended for the seventh day after a month and a half of intense fighting. Since the start of the war in Gaza, Israel has conducted raids to arrest “terror suspects” in the occupied West Bank, resulting in the deaths of at least 247 Palestinians, including nine killed by settlers. The Palestinian Prisoners Society claims that more than 3,200 Palestinians have been detained by Israel, although Israeli troops have reduced that number to around 1,800, with about a thousand having “affiliations with Hamas.”

The West Bank has witnessed the most violence since the Second Intifada, with 455 Palestinians killed in 2023, including armed militia members, attackers, and civilians. In recent clashes between Israeli troops and Palestinians, a 21-year-old man was killed in Beitunia, near Ramallah. The attackers in the Jerusalem shooting have been identified as members of Hamas. The two brothers, Murad Namr, 38, and Ibrahim Namr, 30, were previously convicted and imprisoned on terrorism charges. Murad served a ten-year sentence for planning attacks under the direction of Gaza Strip terrorist elements, while Ibrahim was imprisoned in 2014 for undisclosed terrorist activity. The brothers arrived at one of the entrances to Jerusalem and opened fire on civilians with a pistol and an M-16, resulting in the death of three individuals and the injury of six others.
