M Praveenkumar, Sudarshan, and Prakasam Killed in Road Accident near Salem

Three people were killed in a road accident near Salem on Thursday after a truck collided with a pick-up van used for transporting goods. The van passengers, M Praveenkumar, 27, from Villupuram, Sudarshan, 40, from Arakkonam, and Prakasam, 52, from Gudiyatham, were crushed to death in the collision. The truck driver, Pechimuthu from Tirunelveli, was severely injured and taken to the hospital for treatment.

The accident occurred when the truck, loaded with empty cool drinks bottles, was heading from Nilavarapatti to Chennai. As it neared Kilakukadu, it collided head-on with the van traveling in the opposite direction. The impact completely damaged the front portion of the van, trapping all three passengers inside.

Passers-by attempted to rescue the victims but were unsuccessful in their efforts. They immediately alerted the police and fire services for assistance. Despite their arrival, the three passengers had already succumbed to their injuries. It took an hour-long struggle for the fire and rescue services personnel to retrieve their bodies from the mangled vehicle. The bodies were sent for a postmortem examination.

The accident caused a traffic congestion on the Salem-Chennai highway for nearly an hour. A crane was brought to the scene to remove the vehicles involved in the accident.

Meanwhile, the truck driver, Pechimuthu, suffered a leg fracture but is in stable condition. He is receiving treatment at the Vazhapadi government hospital.

Road accidents continue to claim lives across India, highlighting the need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and better road infrastructure. To prevent such tragic incidents, it is crucial for drivers to exercise caution and adhere to traffic regulations at all times. Authorities should also focus on improving road safety measures and conducting regular awareness campaigns to educate the public about the importance of safe driving.

In related news, a similar accident occurred in West Bengal, where a truck collided with a van carrying construction workers, resulting in the death of four laborers. Additionally, three members of the same family were killed after being struck by a goods train in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district. These incidents serve as a reminder of the need for increased vigilance and safety precautions on the road.
