Leon Prokopioff, 41, Found Dead Inside Wenatchee Residence

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation following the discovery of a deceased individual in a Wenatchee residence on Thursday, November 30th. The body was found during a thorough search of the house on Terminal Avenue, and has been identified as 41-year-old Leon Prokopioff from Cashmere.

Sergeant Chris Foreman stated that patrol officers and detectives were called to the scene, where they discovered the deceased male upstairs. It is believed that the body had been left unattended for several days before its discovery.

The residence in question had been previously flagged as a nuisance property, prompting the county’s response to abate and secure the premises to prevent any future illegal occupation. According to Foreman, the house was known as a “flop house” or “trap house,” frequented by individuals using drugs or seeking temporary shelter. Complaints had been made earlier this year regarding the property, including reports of unauthorized electricity usage by running extension cords to neighboring properties.

Notably, the house had been without running water or electricity for nearly two years and lacked proper sanitation services. This resulted in a substantial accumulation of garbage and refuse in the property’s yard, estimated to be the size of a pickup truck.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office has indicated that Prokopioff’s cause of death is likely a drug overdose and is not being treated as suspicious. The investigation involved the assistance of various agencies, including Chelan County Code Enforcement, the Chelan County Fire Marshal, Chelan County Building Officials, and the Chelan-Douglas Health District.
