The victim, identified as Nisha Ahir, hailed from Uttar Pradesh and was staying in a hostel in Kota. She allegedly hung herself from a ceiling fan in her room in the Mahavir Nagar area. The police have not found any suicide note, leaving the motive behind her extreme step unclear. Assistant Sub-Inspector Kundan Kumar mentioned that the real reason would be known after the family members arrive and the post-mortem report is released.

In response to this incident, District Collector Mahavir Prasad Meena held a meeting with coaching institutes and hostel operators, urging them to implement measures to prevent such tragedies from recurring. The administration is taking steps to address the mental health challenges faced by students and provide them with necessary support.

Unfortunately, Nisha Ahir’s case is not an isolated incident. Kota has witnessed numerous student suicides this year, with this being the 26th reported incident. Just last month, Faureed Hussain from West Bengal, who was also preparing for NEET in Kota, took his own life. In September, a 16-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh, also preparing for NEET, ended her life by consuming poison. These tragic incidents highlight the immense pressure and stress that students face while preparing for competitive exams.

Efforts are being made to raise awareness about mental health issues and provide counseling services to students in Kota. However, more comprehensive measures are needed to address the underlying factors contributing to these suicides. It is essential for educational institutions, parents, and the government to work together to create a supportive environment that prioritizes the mental well-being of students.
