Indian Student Rescued After Months of Captivity and Brutal Abuse in Missouri
A 20-year-old Indian student has been rescued by authorities in the US State of Missouri after enduring months of captivity, brutal beatings, and forced labor. The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was held captive by his cousin and two other men, who have since been arrested and charged with human trafficking, kidnapping, and assault.

According to the charges, the student was locked in a basement for over seven months, forced to sleep on an unfinished floor, and denied access to a bathroom. He was subjected to scavenging for food from restaurant dumpsters and was brutally beaten with various tools, including an electrical wire, PVC pipe, and metal rods.
Prosecutor Joe McCulloch described the incident as “absolutely inhumane and unconscionable.” The victim is currently receiving medical treatment for multiple bone fractures, lacerations, and injuries throughout his body.
The main suspect in the case, Venkatesh R Sattaru, is accused of being the ringleader of the trio and has been charged with human trafficking for the purpose of slavery. The student had migrated from India last year with hopes of studying at the Missouri University of Science and Technology but was instead forced into labor and subjected to constant surveillance by Sattaru.
The rescue was made possible thanks to a citizen who alerted the police. When authorities arrived at the house, the victim, trembling and heavily scarred, came running from the basement. The three suspects, who are wealthy and have political connections in India, are currently being held without bond at the St Charles County Jail.
