Car driver arrested after running over two people, killing one and injuring six

Noida: A car driver who ran over two people and injured six outside a factory in Sector 83 on Sunday has been arrested, according to police. The suspect, identified as Piyush Kumar, is a freelance content writer and a resident of Sector 78. Following the incident, he fled to his hometown in Bihar. However, he was apprehended by the police from Sector 83 near the NSEZ metro station on Wednesday. The SUV, which had a Delhi registration number, was also seized by the authorities. The car is said to belong to Kumar’s friend, who resides near Sector 112.

The tragic incident occurred around 1 am when eight men in their twenties were returning to their rented accommodations after finishing their shift at the factory. The speeding car hit them, resulting in the death of two workers, Mohammed Islam and Imamudin. Six others sustained injuries, two of whom were referred to Safdarjung Hospital for treatment.

The SUV driver did not stop to check on the injured workers and fled the scene. However, the incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, helping the police to identify the vehicle. The car was traced to its owner through the registration number and CCTV footage.

During interrogation, Kumar claimed that he fell asleep at the wheel and accidentally hit the workers who were walking on the side of the road. He has been charged under several sections of the Indian Penal Code, including rash driving, causing hurt, and culpable homicide.

This incident highlights the importance of road safety and the need for drivers to be vigilant and responsible. Authorities are urging all drivers to abide by traffic rules and prioritize the safety of pedestrians and other road users. The families of the deceased workers are devastated by the loss and are seeking justice for their loved ones. The case is now under investigation, and further legal proceedings will take place accordingly.

In other recent news, an SUV collided with three vehicles in Panchkula, injuring a pickup driver. The driver of the SUV, who was allegedly intoxicated, is expected to be arrested. Additionally, in Kolkata, the driver and passenger of a Mercedes car attended a party before borrowing the vehicle from a friend. The car was involved in an accident, and the police are currently investigating the incident.
