JEROME, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A 57-year-old man named James L. McKim has been accused of sexually abusing a minor multiple times between January and March of this year. The victim, a young person, bravely came forward and disclosed the abuse. Shockingly, it is alleged that McKim provided the minor with methamphetamine and would assault them while they were asleep.
Following the report, a record check was conducted, revealing that McKim had previously faced similar accusations in 2014. However, the case was closed at that time as the victims stopped cooperating with the detectives assigned to the case.

McKim was recently arraigned on zoom at the Jerome County district court, where he was informed by Judge John B. Lothspeich that he would be held at the Jerome County jail. The court issued a no contact order, prohibiting McKim from contacting the alleged victim or being within 1000 feet of them or their residence. Additionally, as a condition of his bond, McKim is not allowed to have any contact with any minor child under the age of 18.
During the hearing, McKim’s public defense attorney argued for a lower bond, proposing that McKim could be released under the supervision of his sister and her husband. However, the judge denied the motion and maintained McKim’s bond at $75,000.
McKim’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for December 14th at 9 a.m. It is expected that further evidence and statements will be presented during this hearing. The court will carefully evaluate the case before making any decisions.
