50-year-old woman found dead with 100% burns in Indore flat: Police investigating if it was suicide or accident

Indore: A 50-year-old woman was discovered dead with severe burns in her flat in Satellite Township, Lasudia area on Thursday night. The police are currently investigating whether the incident was self-inflicted or accidental.

The deceased, identified as Swati Phadnis, was found dead in her fourth-floor apartment. The TV unit and the surrounding area were completely burnt, and a bottle of sanitizer was found nearby. The police are examining whether the fire was caused by an accident or if it was a case of suicide.

According to Taresh Soni, the in-charge of Lasudia police station, no suicide note was found at the scene. However, it has been revealed that Swati was undergoing treatment for depression. The neighbors noticed smoke coming out of the flat around 5:30 pm and immediately alerted the police and Swati’s husband.

Despite the efforts of the fire officials who arrived at the scene, they were unable to save Swati, who had sustained 100% burns. Forensic experts conducted a spot verification and determined that only the TV unit and the area around the body were burnt, while the rest of the house remained unaffected.

Swati’s husband, Dilip Phadnis, works at a pharmaceutical company in Dewas, and the couple has two daughters. At the time of the incident, their younger daughter was attending a coaching class, while the elder daughter works in Udaipur.

The police have sent Swati’s body for autopsy and have seized her mobile phone and other items from the scene. The investigation is ongoing to determine the cause of the fire and establish the circumstances surrounding Swati’s death.
