A 27-year-old man has died and another has been injured after being hit by a car in Delhi, according to an official statement on Thursday. The authorities have arrested the accused driver after reviewing over 100 CCTV cameras near the scene of the incident. The deceased has been identified as Karan Gupta, a resident of Vishnu Garden, while the injured person is Omkar Patle from Raghuveer Nagar who is currently receiving treatment at a hospital.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police, Pranav Tayal, stated that on November 26, the Mandir Marg police station received a call from the police control room reporting an accident on Panchkuian Road. Upon arriving at the scene, the police discovered that the injured individuals had already been transferred to Lady Hardinge hospital. Unfortunately, Gupta was declared dead by doctors, and Patle was unable to provide a statement due to his ongoing treatment.

Despite the lack of eyewitnesses and Patle’s inability to give his account, the police team remained determined and diligently examined more than 100 nearby CCTV cameras. They were able to determine the route taken by the offending vehicle and eventually identified it. The owner of the vehicle, Ganga Singh Hanspal, was located and questioned regarding the fatal accident.
During interrogation, Hanspal confessed to driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. Consequently, he was arrested but later released on bail after following proper legal procedures, according to the DCP.
This case highlights the importance of CCTV surveillance in aiding investigations. The police’s perseverance and meticulous analysis of the CCTV footage ultimately led to the identification and arrest of the responsible driver. Authorities hope that this arrest will bring some solace to the families affected by this tragic hit-and-run incident.
