21-Year-Old Medical Student Dies of Snake Bite Near Bengaluru

A 21-year-old medical student tragically died from a snakebite shortly after his convocation ceremony in Bengaluru. Adit Balakrishnan, a student at Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, had just received his MBBS degree when the incident occurred at the Sri Siddhartha Medical College campus, located on the outskirts of Tumakuru, 80km away from Bengaluru.

According to the police, the venomous snakebite happened around 11 pm as Adit was returning from the convocation. Unaware of the bite, he reached his residence accompanied by his mother and relatives. However, upon arrival, he suddenly collapsed and was rushed to a nearby hospital. Sadly, he was pronounced dead shortly after his arrival, as reported by TOI.

An autopsy report confirmed the presence of significant venom levels in Adit’s blood samples, confirming the cause of death. Despite the joy of receiving his MBBS degree in the presence of notable dignitaries like Congress parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor and SAHE chancellor and home minister G Parameshwara, Adit’s life was cut short by this tragic incident.

Dr. Prabhakara GN, the vice-principal of SSMC, expressed his condolences and described Adit as an exceptional student. The news of his untimely demise has left the college community shocked and saddened.

Adit’s mother and relatives, who had traveled from Thrissur to attend the convocation, are now awaiting the arrival of Adit’s father from Italy for the final rites.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the dangers that can lurk in unexpected places, even after moments of great celebration. It is a tragic loss for Adit’s family, friends, and the medical community, who will remember him as a promising young student whose future was cut short.
