Tragic Incident at Sri Siddhartha Medical College Campus Claims the Life of 21-year-old Medical Student
A joyous occasion turned into a nightmare for a 21-year-old medical student and his family, as he tragically lost his life just hours after receiving his MBBS degree. Adit Balakrishnan, a native of Thrissur in Kerala and a student of Sri Siddhartha Academy of Higher Education, was bitten by a snake after his convocation ceremony at the Sri Siddhartha Medical College (SSMC) campus in Bengaluru.

According to reports from the Times of India, the incident took place on the outskirts of Tumkur, approximately 80km from Bengaluru. Adit was bitten by a venomous snake near a parking space close to his room while returning from the convocation. Unaware of the snakebite, he collapsed upon reaching home and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The autopsy report confirmed the presence of venom in Adit’s blood samples, indicating the snakebite as the cause of death. Despite the tragic incident, Adit had been awarded his MBBS degree during the convocation, which was attended by notable dignitaries such as Congress parliamentarian Shashi Tharoor and SAHE chancellor and home minister G Parameshwara.
The news of Adit’s untimely demise has left his family devastated. His mother and relatives, who had come to participate in the convocation, were shocked upon hearing the news. The grieving family is now awaiting the arrival of Adit’s father from Italy for the final rites.
Dr Prabhakara GN, the vice principal of SSMC, expressed his condolences and described Adit as a commendable student. He stated that it was unfortunate that Adit could not reach the hospital in time. A condolence meeting was held at the college to pay tribute to the young student.

The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictability of life and the tragic consequences that can occur even in moments of celebration. The loss of a promising young life has left the medical community and the college in shock.
