Four Palestinians, including two children and two senior militant commanders, were killed on Wednesday by Israeli forces in the Jenin refugee camp in the occupied West Bank, according to Palestinian health officials. The Palestinian health ministry stated that the two children, 8-year-old Adam Samer Al-Ghoul and 15-year-old Basil Suleiman Abu Al-Wafa, were shot dead by Israeli forces in Jenin.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show the boys being hit, but it was unclear who fired the shots. The Israel Defense Force (IDF) responded to the footage, stating that during their activity in the Jenin Camp, suspects had thrown explosive devices towards IDF soldiers, and the soldiers had responded with live fire.

The IDF’s claims have not been independently verified, and CBC News has requested comment from the military. The videos show the boys’ final moments, with one video showing Al-Ghoul falling to the ground and another showing Al-Wafa being shot.

The official Palestinian news agency WAFA shared the videos, stating that Israeli forces shot the boys directly and prevented paramedics from reaching them. The report from WAFA could not be independently verified. The Palestinian Red Crescent Society also stated that it was prevented from reaching injured people in part of the Jenin refugee camp.

Dr. Wissam Bakker, director of the Khalil Suleiman Governmental Hospital in Jenin, where the boys’ bodies were taken, accused the IDF of deliberately shooting both boys based on the location of the bullet wounds.

The Israeli military confirmed that two senior Islamic Jihad militants, Muhammad Jamal Zubaidi and Wissam Ziad Hanoun, were also killed during the raid in Jenin. The Israeli army stated that Zubeidi was a senior operative of Palestinian Islamic Jihad and had been involved in extensive militant activity.

The occupied West Bank has seen a rise in violence and deaths this year, particularly for children, according to the UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. More than 450 Palestinian killings have been documented in the West Bank this year, with over 230 occurring since October 7. The majority of the fatalities were attributed to Israeli forces, with many occurring during search-and-arrest operations.

The situation in the West Bank continues to escalate, with tensions reaching a breaking point. The ongoing violence has raised concerns about the deteriorating humanitarian situation and the impact on the lives of Palestinians in the region.
