BIRMINGHAM, UK (WIAT) — The Birmingham Police Department is appealing to the public for assistance in its investigation into the shooting death of a 20-year-old in 2022.
On December 2, 2022, just before 8 p.m., officers were called to the 1500 block of Finley Boulevard following reports of gunshots and a person injured. At the scene, officers found a gray Nissan Sentra that had crashed into a tree.

Inside the vehicle, a man and a woman were discovered with gunshot wounds. Nearby, another man was found with a gunshot wound as well. Tragically, the man inside the vehicle, identified as Cornelius May Jr., was pronounced dead by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service (BFRS) personnel.
The BFRS transported the other two victims to a local hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The initial investigation suggests that all three victims were in the 1600 block of Finley Boulevard when an unknown assailant fired at their vehicle.
No arrests have been made in connection with the case. The Birmingham Police Department is urging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777. Tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to £5,000. According to Officer Truman Fitzgerald, these types of cases are often solved thanks to tips from the public.
The police department hopes that by appealing to the community for assistance, they can gather vital information that will lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect responsible for this tragic shooting.
