A major fire at a chemical manufacturing facility in Surat city, Gujarat, has resulted in the recovery of seven bodies of missing workers. The incident occurred at the Aether Industries Ltd plant in the Sachin industrial area of the city. One of the deceased was an employee of the company, while the remaining six were contract workers, according to Surat Collector Ayush Oak.
Following a search operation in the factory premises, the bodies of the seven missing workers were discovered. The fire had engulfed the plant on Wednesday, causing their disappearance. The deceased individuals have been identified as Divyesh Patel (company employee), Santosh Vishwakarma, Sanat Kumar Mishra, Dharmendra Kumar, Ganesh Prasad, Sunil Kumar, and Abhishek Singh.

Surat Collector Ayush Oak confirmed that 24 people who sustained injuries during the incident are currently receiving treatment at various hospitals. The fire had started at the chemical plant around 2 am on Wednesday after an explosion occurred in a large tank due to a leakage of inflammable chemicals stored inside, according to Surat’s in-charge chief fire officer Basant Pareek.
Efforts to control the blaze required the involvement of 15 fire tenders, and it took nine hours to bring the fire under control.
The company, Aether Industries Ltd, issued a statement on November 29, informing stock exchanges about the incident. The fire was reported at the manufacturing site located at Plot No. 8203, GIDC Sachin, Surat, early in the morning at around 01:50. The statement also mentioned that approximately 25 people suffered injuries as a result of the fire.
Investigations into the cause of the fire and the safety measures at the chemical manufacturing facility are currently underway.
