Rohingya Youth Syed Alam Shot Dead in Cox’s Bazar Refugee Camp

A Rohingya youth was fatally shot in a refugee camp in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar early yesterday morning. The victim, identified as Syed Alam, 24, lived in Camp 4, according to Shamim Hossain, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station.

Authorities reported that a group of unidentified criminals forcefully entered Alam’s house and shot him while he was asleep at approximately 6:00 am. The assailants fled the scene immediately after the act.

Alam was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital within the camp premises. Tragically, medical professionals declared him dead upon arrival due to the severity of his injuries. The motive behind the attack remains unknown, and investigations are currently ongoing.

Local law enforcement agencies have initiated the process of filing a case in connection with the incident. They are working diligently to gather evidence and identify the culprits responsible for this heinous crime.

The Rohingya community in Cox’s Bazar has been enduring a multitude of challenges since fleeing violence and persecution in Myanmar. The refugee camps in the area, including the one where Alam resided, have become temporary homes for thousands of displaced Rohingya individuals and families.
