Retired Las Vegas Police Employee Fatally Shoots Robert Hoy in Southwest Valley

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – A retired employee of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) was involved in a fatal shooting in the southwest valley last week, according to authorities.

The incident took place on November 21 at around 1:36 p.m. on Arroyo Crossing Parkway. The victim, identified as 69-year-old Robert Hoy, was found with gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigations revealed that Hoy parked his vehicle directly behind another citizen’s car. He then exited his own vehicle with a firearm and approached the citizen’s vehicle. In response, the citizen, a retired LVMPD employee, also armed, got out of his parked car and shot Hoy.

The LVMPD stated that the citizen, who cooperated fully with the investigation, was released on the scene due to the evidence suggesting self-defense.

The case remains an active investigation under the LVMPD homicide section. Once the investigation concludes, the Clark County District Attorney’s office will review the case for potential charges.
