A man who was shot and killed by a homeless woman after she broke into his home in Miracle Mile has been identified as Michael Latt, a well-known film marketing consultant. The incident occurred on Monday evening at Latt’s residence on Alandele Avenue. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
According to law enforcement sources cited by the Los Angeles Times, Michael Latt was a social justice advocate and had deep connections within the Hollywood industry. The suspect, Jameelah Elena Michl, 36, who was reportedly living in her car, was apprehended at the scene and subsequently charged with murder and burglary. She is currently being held on $3 million bail.

Latt gained recognition for his work on marketing campaigns, particularly for Ryan Coogler’s debut film “Fruitvale Station” in 2013. He advocated for diversity and social impact through his involvement in campaigns for movies such as “The Birth of a Nation,” “If Beale Street Could Talk,” “I Am Not Your Negro,” and “Crazy Rich Asians.”
Additionally, Latt worked for non-profit organizations like Imagine Justice, founded by Common, which focuses on prison reform, and ARRAY Now, where he served as a consultant for filmmaker Ava DuVernay. He also held the position of marketing director for Blackout for Human Rights, an organization founded by Coogler that aims to address police brutality.
Latt’s mother, Michelle Satter, took to social media to express her grief and highlight her son’s dedication to supporting artists and promoting organizations that uplifted artists of color. She emphasized his commitment to leveraging storytelling for lasting change.
The investigation into Michael Latt’s untimely death is ongoing, and the police have not released any additional details at this time.
