Man Shoots Grandfather Dead in Bihar’s West Champaran Over Land Spat

A shocking incident took place in Bihar’s West Champaran district on Thursday when a man shot dead his own grandfather. The motive behind the crime was believed to be a dispute over land. The accused, identified as Shahid Ali, also known as Chand Sheikh, shot his grandfather, Sheikh Shaukat, in the head before fleeing the scene. The tragic incident unfolded in Bastha village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Mainatad police station.

Upon receiving the information, local police rushed to the spot and arranged for the post-mortem examination of the deceased. According to reports, Shaukat had two sons, Sheikh Ashraf and Sheikh Asghar, along with a daughter. However, while dividing his property, Shaukat had only allocated a share to Asghar and his daughter, leaving nothing for Ashraf.

Shaukat had also set aside 12 Katha lands for his own sustenance. This issue became a bone of contention between Ali, who is Ashraf’s son, and his grandfather. Ali had been pressuring Shaukat to transfer the ownership of these 12 Kathas to him, but the elderly man had adamantly refused to comply. The dispute escalated into a heated argument, ultimately resulting in Shaukat’s tragic demise.

The police have initiated an investigation into the matter and are actively trying to apprehend the accused. The motive behind the crime seems to be deeply rooted in the family’s property dispute. The incident has sent shockwaves throughout the region, leaving the community in a state of disbelief.
