A heartbreaking tragedy unfolded in Medical Lake, Washington, as an 11-year-old girl was shot and killed on Sunday afternoon. The young girl, identified as Lilea “Lilly” Stolworthy, was found lifeless just outside her family’s home on Prentis Street. The Spokane Medical Examiner later confirmed that Lilly had died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Detectives believe Lilly’s brother, 31-year-old Jordan Brownlow, was responsible for the shooting. After killing his sister, Brownlow apparently turned the gun on himself. His lifeless body was discovered in a car on Graham Road, with a pistol still in his hand.

In an interview with KHQ, Darel Stolworthy, the mother of the siblings, revealed that both Lilly and Brownlow had been battling mental health issues for a long time. According to Stolworthy, Lilly had bipolar disorder and had exhibited violent behavior at home. Although she was on medication, her mother believed that counseling was also necessary for her recovery. Unfortunately, finding a suitable mental health facility for the 11-year-old proved challenging for the family.
Stolworthy expressed her gratitude to the Medical Lake School District for their support in assisting Lilly during her time at school. The grieving mother also recollected her last conversation with her daughter, in which Lilly expressed her desire to “be done” with life.
While the motive behind the murder-suicide remains unclear, court documents revealed that Brownlow sent a group text message to family members apologizing and asking for forgiveness. Stolworthy believes that her son’s actions were driven by his misguided attempt to protect their family.
In remembrance of Lilly, a vigil has been planned for Thursday evening at Wilcox Park in Medical Lake. Stolworthy emphasized that Lilly’s struggles with mental health should not define her, and she should be remembered as a sweet and beautiful young girl.

As the family continues to grapple with this unimaginable loss, they remain uncertain about attending the vigil. However, it is open to the public for those who wish to pay their respects to Lilly and support the grieving family.
