The crash took place around 10 p.m. on KY-192, and the driver responsible, Wesley Allen, has been charged with murder after being found to be under the influence of alcohol.

The victim, Fred R. Johnson, was a hard-working man who had just finished his shift at Laurel Lake when the collision occurred. The family of the deceased was shocked and heartbroken by the sudden loss. Teddy Swanson, Johnson’s stepson, shared his pain, saying, “I’m hurt. I’m mad. I’ve suffered loss before, but nothing like this.”

Authorities revealed that Allen’s truck crashed into the Honda Civic driven by Johnson. The impact was fatal, resulting in Johnson’s death. The tragedy could have been avoided as court records indicate that Allen’s blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and an open container was found in his truck.

Valecia Swanson visited the site of the accident and described it as senseless, emphasizing that Johnson had been driving within his lane. She added, “There’s so many people that this has completely destroyed. He was a well-respected man. So many friends. So many family.”

Allen, 29, has been taken into custody at the Laurel County Jail. Police are awaiting the results of blood tests to gather further information about his level of intoxication.
