Authorities in Philadelphia are currently searching for a prisoner who managed to escape from a prison facility in the Holmesburg area of the city on Thursday. The man, identified as 34-year-old Gino Hagenkotter, was an inmate at the Philadelphia Detention Center. According to a document obtained by Action News, Hagenkotter left the nearby Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Facility on State Road without permission while working in an orchard. Surprisingly, he was accompanied by a prison guard when he made his escape. Fortunately, no force was used, and no injuries were reported during the incident.

Hagenkotter’s last known addresses include the 7700 block of Cottage Street, the 3500 block of Shelmire Avenue, and the 11800 block of Brandon Road. His most recent arrest was for retail theft, and he was released on charges by Philadelphia on November 16. However, he was still in custody due to a probation violation in Bucks County.

This escape is not the first incident to occur in the Holmesburg area. Just a few months ago, in May, two inmates named Ameen Hurst, 19, and Nasir Grant, 24, successfully escaped through a gap in the fence at the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Facility. District Attorney Larry Krasner disclosed during a recent city council hearing that the prison staff had been aware of the gap for approximately seven weeks before the escape occurred. Shockingly, it was also revealed that a guard was asleep on the night of the escape.

The recent escape raises concerns about the security measures and protocols in place at correctional facilities in the Holmesburg area. Authorities are now faced with the challenging task of locating and apprehending Hagenkotter, ensuring the safety of the public, and reviewing and enhancing security measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
