Authorities in Salem County have identified a man who was struck and killed by a vehicle last week and have located the driver involved in the incident. The victim, Bryan Rodriguez Lagunas, 27, of Woolwich, was lying in the roadway on Route 130 near Pine Street in Carneys Point when he was hit by a car around 2 a.m. on November 24, according to Carneys Point Police Detective Joseph Racite.

The driver did not stop at the scene, and police announced on Wednesday that they were searching for a red, four-door Toyota Corolla. However, investigators were able to locate the car and speak with the driver, a 52-year-old man from Penns Grove, who is now cooperating in the ongoing investigation, Racite said on Thursday. No charges have been filed at this stage.

Police are still seeking to speak with a passenger who was in the vehicle at the time of the crash. According to Racite, the driver did not know the passenger well. It remains unclear why Rodriguez Lagunas was lying in the roadway before he was hit, but investigators do not believe he was assaulted, nor do they suspect that any other vehicles struck him prior to the collision with the car.

Authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that may be relevant to the case to come forward and contact Carneys Point Police Detective Tim Haslett. He can be reached at 856-299-1356.
